Independent Strategy & Advisory

Clarity before commitment.

I work with founders and executives who need a second, unclouded opinion before the next big decision — on strategy, growth, and the calls that don't have an obvious right answer.

A second set of eyes, with no stake in office politics.

Portrait of Richard Hoy

I'm Richard Hoy, founder of Richard Hoy Consulting, based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Since founding the firm in 2002, I've worked with ownership groups and leadership teams through growth, turnaround, and transformation — many of those engagements evolved into full executive roles, from CEO of Catax Canada, grown to 540 clients before its sale to Ryan LLC in 2023, to Senior Vice President of Operations at Ledcor Industries, where the team grew from 210 to more than 1,700 people and revenue from $80 million to over $1 billion.

My job isn't to hand over a slide deck and disappear. It's to make the middle steps visible — the ones that feel obvious to me but get skipped over — so your team can clarify the direction, hold the standard, and execute with confidence.

Where I'm most useful.

Culture & Change

Making the culture explicit rather than accidental, and leading people through change without losing momentum or trust along the way.

Strategic & Business Planning

Turning ambition into a structured plan — desired state, current state, and a prioritized execution sequence your team can actually run.

Leadership Development

Building leaders who define the view from the mountain top, clarify roles, and hold the team to a standard that keeps raising the bar.

Sales & Growth

Sharpening the sales conversation and account planning process so pipeline turns into revenue on a repeatable basis.

People & Organization

Recruitment, career mapping, and engagement practices that keep good people around and performing at their best.

Leadership comes down to three activities.

The view from the mountain top

Define where the business is going and communicate it with enough clarity that nobody has to guess.

Roles & engagement

Make sure everyone knows their responsibilities, and how those responsibilities contribute to the whole.

Review, audit & raise the bar

Build a constant feedback loop that keeps improvement and innovation moving instead of settling for good enough.

The playbook behind the advisory.

Creating High Performance 101

This book brings together the principles, models, and operating practices I've collected, tested, and refined over more than forty years of leading people, teams, and businesses. It started as a practical manual for colleagues who found it hard to follow the leaps I made from problem to solution.

It isn't academic. It's meant to be useful — a working reference for building aligned, engaged, courageous, and commercially effective teams. The advisory work I do draws directly from it.
